Design & Certification

The TUV Rheinland certification for the XCover 8 Pro (model numbers SM-G766B/U/U1/W) suggests that there will be global variants.

Similar to previous XCover models, it is anticipated to have an IP68 rating and MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability, which makes it suitable for harsh environments. A 4,265mAh battery is also rumored to be included, although the charging speeds have yet to be verified.

Launch Timeline & Competition

Samsung is expected to launch the XCover 8 Pro along with a Galaxy Tab Active model in the first half of 2024, focusing on enterprise and outdoor users. This launch is in line with the release of the XCover 6 Pro in July 2022 and the introduction of the XCover 7 in India in February 2023.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip and Android 15 integration of the XCover 8 Pro establish it as a durable and future-ready device for professionals.

With enhancements in processing capabilities and software, Samsung seeks to take the lead in the rugged smartphone market, competing against brands such as CAT and Sonim.
