Samsung is getting ready for the next big software update as testing starts for Galaxy A55 One UI 8 Android 16. The mid-range smartphone, which shipped last year with Android 14-based One UI 6, is currently undergoing internal testing at Samsung for its future Android update.
The One UI 8 Android 16 test firmware for the Galaxy A55 has begun showing up on Geekbench, suggesting that Samsung is on a fast track towards its Android 16 adaptation. The listing, which was brought to light by a user on X, lists a Galaxy A55 with the model number SM-A556E which is being tested in the market with th latest version of Android rocking One UI 8. This early glimpse at testing shows that the company is prepping the phone for its next major software leap.

Samsung hasn’t given a formal announcement just yet, but we do have an idea of performance right under the new software’s hood, thanks to Geekbench scores. For the Galaxy A55 One UI 8 Android 16 test build, the single-core and multi-core benchmarks came in at 1,150 and 3,417, respectively. As we are looking at pre-release figures, there might be some improvement in optimization and performance before the final release.

Samsung’s roadmap doesn’t end there. The One UI 8 based on Android 16 will also make its way to the Galaxy M55 and Galaxy F55. These lower-cost units probably won’t begin testing until the current mid-rangers finish their phase.
