Vodafone Idea (Vi) has expanded its Vi 5G rollout coverage in India with 23 additional cities being added to the list. This is a huge step in as much as the operator had recently launched 5G in Bengaluru.
Prior to this, the Vi 5G push was in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, and Chandigarh. This new launch lists out Ahmedabad, Agra, Aurangabad, Kozhikode, Cochin, Dehradun, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Malappuram, Meerut, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Rajkot, Sonepat, Surat, Siliguri, Trivandrum, Vadodara and Vizag.
Vi said that the 5G rollout will likely be implemented gradually, and it will include all 17 of Vi’s priority circles in India. Once the service is on air in these locations, customers with 5G enabled handsets will be able to access the high-speed service.
Unlimited 5G data as an add-on is also available from Vi at ₹299. This is a prepaid plan and its validity is 28 days. Other Vi 5G recharge plans with unlimited data are ₹349, ₹365, ₹579, ₹649, ₹859, ₹979 and ₹3,599. For the postpaid subscribers, Vi is providing 5G data packs starting from ₹451 to ₹1,201.
To smoothen and energy efficiency movement from 4G to 5G, Vi is using AI supported SON (Self-Organizing Networks). Power-Optimal Network This sub-network optimization is energy-efficient and better performance. Vi has collaborated with infrastructure providers like Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung to ensure that its 4G and 5G networks are integrated smoothly.
The telco said it is targeting to conclude the pan-India rollout of Vi 5G by by August 2025. This ongoing expansion reinforces Vi’s competitive position in one of the world’s fastest growing 5G markets in India.
