DJI Romo is now official. As someone who’s founded on drones and action cameras, the fact that DJI just announced its first robot vacuum — the DJI Romo — doesn’t register as surprising. The official teaser was posted on Chinese social media, confirming the long-rumored device and the official launch schedule – which will be on August 6th at 20:00 local time (13:00 for UTC).
Best known for drones for the consumer and enterprise industries, DJI has been slowly building out its line-up of products. DJl won’t stop targeting people who fancy the new and interesting in tech products, as the company has released wireless microphones, 360-degree cameras, even a competitor to GoPro’s latest action cams launched with the Osmo Action 6, and now a robot vacuum in the DJI Romo.
The DJI Romo is not another smart vacuum, but it is the company’s foray into home automation space. The DJI Romo, unlike the brand’s drone or Osmo products, is not for taking pictures, but rather smart cleaning, and presents a new category for DJI’s expanding tech gadget ecosystem.

DJI hasn’t released complete details of the DJI Romo, but it has posted early teaser images and videos for it on its Chinese social media channels. From what is visible, the DJI Romo will include two brushes at its front but it doesn’t use LiDAR sensors for mapping — unlike many high-end robot vacuums on the market.
There’s also a glimpse of a see-through docking station in the teaser, though it’s unclear if that’s how the final product will look. It is also unclear whether the DJI Romo will get an international launch or if it will be available only in China at launch. But DJI has confirmed that the DJI Romo is not a prototype at all – it will be produced in a large amount and will not be rare available.
It’s also worth noting that this comes in advance of rumored DJI products such as a Osmo 360, Osmo Nano and the Osmo Action 6 so it’s surprising to see Domio bring this to market, but encourages nonetheless. Rumors about a DJI robot vacuum have been swirling around for months, and now that vacuum is finally here.
With the DJI Romo on the horizon, it’s going to be interesting to see if it can make an impact in an already crowded robot vacuum market — all without the help of LiDAR navigation. That’s not to say DJI’s reputation for engineering and product design couldn’t give it an advantage even without those features.
As the full reveal is only weeks away, it looks like fans (and analysts) are primed to watch how DJI Romo stacks up in terms of performance, clever features and let’s not forget, price. Be sure to keep up to date as the August 6 launch comes closer.
