Introduced with Galaxy S10, Qi2 25W wireless charging is finally here and it’s going to change how Android smartphones receive power. The new standard—formally known as Qi v2. 2. 1 — also arrive with a less complicated branding: Qi2 25W wireless charging.
This new Qi2 25W wireless charging update offers 70% higher power compared to Qi2 (15W). In other words, Android handsets with Qi2 25W wireless charging support will soon be able to charge as fast as Apple’s MagSafe 2 wireless charging of the iPhones.

There are a few Samsung Qi2 chargers out, but WPC also states that Android smartphones will soon be supporting 25W Wireless Charging. While the consortium hasn’t mentioned any particular device names, it paves the way for flagship brands to follow the lead and introduce Qi2 25W wireless charging in their future models, such as Samsung, Google and you guessed it, OnePlus.
Curiously, the only modern Android phone capable of full Qi2 wireless charging with magnets is the HMD Skyline. Others such as the Samsung Galaxy S25 are capable of Qi2 wireless charging, but do not have the built-in magnets for perfect alignment between charger and device— essential for realising the full capabilities of Qi2 25W wireless charging.
How to Use Qi2 25W Wireless Charging
Similar to Apple’s MagSafe, Qi2 25W wireless charging relies on magnets to snap the charger precisely on the back of the device. This alignment increases efficiency and velocity. Most previous Qi-certified smartphones were limited to 7.5W without proper magnetic alignment. Qi2 25W wireless charging, on the other hand, promises a lot faster charging if the hardware is capable.
WPC officially revealed that 14 devices including transmitters and receivers have completed the Qi2 25W wireless charging certification. Several hundred million additional shipments are anticipated in the coming months indicating widespread industry adoption of Qi2 25W wireless charging.

And significantly, Apple’s iPhones (which already support MagSafe 2) will also support Qi2 25W wireless charging. While it doesn’t get iPhone and Android devices to the same place with respect to wireless charging standards, the move could make it easier to develop accessories.

Samsung Survey Indicates Qi2 25W Wireless Charging Support
Samsung has already teased that they are going to Qi2 25W wireless charging. It even ran a survey in the Members app asking if users would be willing to have a thicker phone if it meant they got magnetic charging. That could be an indication that Qi2 25W wireless charging is in the roadmap for forthcoming Galaxy handsets.
