The latest device to emerge from this line is the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, which is said to come with a choice of four stunning finishes: they are named as Mystic Black, Bright White, Auspicious Red and Crimson Purple.

Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station as well as rumors have hinted at some big hardware upgrades and changes in chipsets. The Huawei Mate XT 2 purportedly intends to use an in-house Kirin SoC, with rumors suggesting that it could be called Kirin 9020 instead of Kirin 9010. This SoC was developed using Huawei’s “N-1 mode” manufacturing process, a supposedly new approach for enhance efficiency and performance.
Besides improvements in chipsets, the Huawei Mate XT 2 could also come with enhanced cameras and other improvements. The first Mate XT had a $2,800 asking price at launch, and it become a collector’s item commanding as much as $10,000 once they became scarce, but the Mate XT 2 is likely to be a better value offering upgraded specs.
China-first launch expected
The Huawei Mate XT 2 is expected to be primed for release in the Chinese market first, with plans for a wider release to follow. And if the phone launches in September, as is rumored, it would edge out Samsung’s Galaxy G Fold, which still hasn’t debuted despite some speculation that it would be unveiled during last month’s Samsung Unpacked event.
If everything goes according to plan, then the Huawei Mate XT 2 will become the second mass-produced tri-fold smartphone in the world – unless Samsung pulls a fast one on us.
