NVIDIA is gripping even more of the PC GPU market, and leaving AMD and Intel in the dust. According to Jon Peddie Research’s most recent issue of its Market Watch, the second quarter of 2025 was a very good quarter for NVIDIA thanks to discrete GPU sales.

Jon Peddie Research estimates that overall PC GPU shipments totaled 74.7 million units in Q2 2025, versus PC CPU shipments of 66.9 million units. Even with a compound annual decline in the PC GPU install base of 2.9% from 2025-2028, the install base will be near 3 billion (2,994 million) at the end of the forecast period.
Desktop discrete graphics cards are enjoying the most growth, with a bump of 11% year-to-year, while notebooks have increased by only 2.5%. This reflects the opportunity in the market for standalone GPU experience. Both NVIDIA and AMD debuted competitive new lines this past year (GeForce RTX 50 and Radeon RX 9000 series, respectively) and supply is getting better, with prices slowly coming down toward MSRP.
NVIDIA Market Share Gains
PC GPU Market Share Jon Peddie Research found that NVIDIA grew its overall PC GPU share to 24%, a gain of 4.3 points. AMD, at the same time, dropped 2.4%, and Intel by 1.9%. Ever enterprising on the discrete GPU front, NVIDIA was reported to hold 92% market share of the dGPU market in Q1 2025.

On a total GPU attach rate including integrated and discrete GPUs across desktop and notebook, and workstations the figure again jumped 0.5% to 112%.

The PC CPU market also showed expansion, with shipments growing 12.9% year-over-year and 7.9% sequentially. AMD’s CPU shipments increased by 27% and outperformed Intel’s growth of only 2%. Total CPU unit shipments rose 8% in 2Q 2025.

Desktop CPUs do now make up 33% of the market, up from 29% in Q1 2025 and 24% a year ago. Notebook CPUs now accounted for only 67% of the CPU market, which was down from 71% share of the space last quarter, and 76% share of space from last year – implying a small rebound back toward desktop performance.
