The successor to one of the most fascinating photography-driven flagships of 2024—the Huawei Pura 70—remains some time away, but leaks and rumors are beginning to surface. As expected, the next Pura phone will be called the Huawei Pura 80.
The Pura line from Huawei was introduced with the Pura 70 earlier in 2024, representing a new branding and naming strategy for Huawei’s renowned P-series. In 2025, Huawei is anticipated to unveil its Pura 80 series.
While an exact launch date has yet to be determined, it could occur around April, considering that the Pura 70 (shown above) launched in April 2024.
The forthcoming Pura 80 models are rumored to offer two different display options. The standard Pura 80 model is expected to feature a 6.6-inch flat screen, continuing the transition away from quad-curved displays for “vanilla” flagships.
On the other hand, the higher-end variants, like the Pura 80 Pro or Ultra, are projected to have larger 6.8-inch curved displays, which many regard as especially premium. Personally, I prefer flat panels, but that’s just my opinion.
Overall, this strategy reflects the Pura 70 lineup, which also provided similar display variations between its standard and premium models. The Pura 80 series is also anticipated to make notable advancements in imaging technology. A major highlight will be an enhanced periscope telephoto lens, which promises significant improvements in zoom performance.
This represents an evolution from the Pura 70’s one-inch retractable lens, which was already praised for its image quality and lightweight design. According to leaks, the new telephoto sensor will deliver sharper magnified images and improved performance in low-light situations.
This sounds promising! Additionally, there is excitement surrounding the reported inclusion of OmniVision’s OV50X sensor, a high-quality imaging component recognized for its large photosensitive area and advanced LOFIC technology. This should lead to precise light and color representation, enabling users to capture visuals with lifelike detail and clarity.
