iPhone 17 Pro Rumored to Feature Major Camera Upgrades

According to a recent rumor, the iPhone 17 Pro may come with several camera enhancements.

Apple upgraded the ultrawide camera on the iPhone 16 Pro and is anticipated to include a new telephoto lens in the iPhone 17 Pro.

Tipster Digital Chat Station has supported claims that the 12MP telephoto camera will be replaced with a 48MP periscope camera. Additionally, the front-facing camera is expected to be upgraded from 12MP to 48MP. The leaker also suggests that the front camera will offer improved video-recording capabilities.

An earlier report states that the front-facing camera will include a six-element lens, representing an upgrade from the existing five plastic lens elements. The main camera is anticipated to have a sensor of the same size as that of the iPhone 16 Pro, but it might utilize a glass plastic lens, similar to the telephoto camera.

These hybrid glass-plastic lenses are set to enhance optical performance and enable the new phone to surpass other leading camera smartphones.

Theoretically, they should enhance both picture quality and low-light capabilities. The iPhone 15 Pro Max was the first device from Apple to incorporate a glass-plastic hybrid lens known as 1G3P, which stands for one glass element and three plastic elements.

There are rumors that the iPhone 17 Pro series will feature a horizontally arranged camera island reminiscent of the Pixel design.

Additionally, the models may transition from aluminum to titanium and could showcase a back design that combines glass and aluminum.

It is also rumored that Apple will implement a new optical lens called metalens for Face ID, which could allow for a reduction in the size of the Dynamic Island, leading to a subtly refreshed front design for the first time since the launch of the iPhone 14 series.

This year’s lineup is also anticipated to include a slim model, potentially named the iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Slim, as the Plus model is being phased out after two years, similar to the previous mini model.
