Galaxy AI’s Live Translate is arguably the most valuable AI tool available on a smartphone.
This feature enables two individuals speaking different languages to engage in a meaningful phone conversation, with real-time translation ensuring that both participants fully understand each other. Can you think of any Apple Intelligence feature that matches its usefulness?
While Genmoji may be beneficial for some, it doesn’t compare in the same way.
Apple certainly has room for improvement in the AI sector. Currently, the only AI feature I utilize daily on my iPhone 15 Pro Max is the ChatGPT integration with Siri. I anticipate that Apple will eventually introduce more AI features for Apple Intelligence, and I hope that some will be as effective as Live Translate.
Speaking of Apple Intelligence, prior to the release of iOS 18.2—which rolled out the second batch of Apple Intelligence for compatible iPhones—Apple mentioned that Apple Intelligence occupies 4GB of storage on your iPhone. However, that has since changed.

With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple introduced several new features, including the Image Playground, Genmoji, and ChatGPT integration with Siri.
Currently, Apple Intelligence occupies 7GB of storage on compatible iPhones. For those using the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, or iPhone 16 Pro with only 128GB of storage, this means that the space taken up by Apple Intelligence has increased from 3% to 5.5% almost instantly.
In contrast, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro Max come with a minimum of 256GB of storage, providing extra space and alleviating concerns about how much storage AI consumes on these models.
As Apple Intelligence is likely to require more storage over time, it’s probable that additional models—not just the iPhone Pro Max—will eventually start with 256GB of storage.
Furthermore, since a minimum of 8GB of RAM is necessary for an iPhone to support Apple Intelligence, Apple has ensured that specific models like the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are equipped with 8GB of RAM.
In comparison, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which do not support Apple Intelligence, only have 6GB of RAM. The upcoming iPhone SE 4 is also anticipated to feature 8GB of RAM to enable Apple Intelligence.
While it is possible to disable Apple Intelligence, doing so is akin to opening Pandora’s Box; after installation, you may not be able to reclaim all the storage your iPhone allocated to AI, even if you deactivate it.
