Elon Musk said once again that the Tesla Roadster 2 hypercar will sprint from 0-60 mph in under one second. Certainly electric car enthusiasts have gotten very, very excited over that claim. Musk has previously said your upcoming Tesla Roadster 2 will be able to “fly” in some capacity and a significant display is set for later inside 2025.
Tesla could use banned Formula 1 tech that let legendary race cars cheat to make your car faster than it is now Tesla Roadster 2 may use trick, fan-based downforce tech from Brabham BT46 “fan car,” Chaparral 2J
Earlier Elon Musk had teased that Tesla Roadster 2 might feature SpaceX’s rocket thruster technology. A new Tesla patent suggests a different avenue: An advanced aerodynamic system with fans and deployable skirts. Along with a new body that boasts 225 pounds of added downforce thanks to its inimitable aerodynamics, the Roadster will enjoy tremendous grip and handling at every speed.
A network of fans creates an aerodynamic seal underneath the hypercar that is also designed to generate high downforce at low speeds. It adjusts with the skirts partially retracted to maintain stability over rough surfaces at higher speeds. Developed by schoolmates Simon Beggs and Sahir Berry, Airtech uses an array of fans to deliver downforce at lower speeds than traditional high-velocity spoilers, ultimately increasing grip, cornering abilities and track performance for the new Tesla Roadster 2.

Ultimately the key question will be which gives the final push: a set of SpaceX thrusters, or maybe F1-style fan power? Elon Musk has kept us hanging, but he did also confirm that a “most epic demo” of the Tesla Roadster 2 is in store later this year.
Before the Cybercab and expanded portfolio, Tesla had postponed the arrival of Roadster 2. With those finished, however, all eyes are on this revolutionary hypercar. More than just rumors of rocket thrusters and adaptive aerodynamics to be deployed in under one second that could make the Tesla Roadster 2 redefine what acceleration means.
FAQs
There are suggestions the Tesla Roadster 2 might be able to “fly” on thrusters or fan-based aerodynamics, but Musk will reveal all when he shows off a prototype sometime later in 2025.
Fan-based downforce systems have been used in racing before, most notably the Brabham BT46 “fan car” that was banned for creating an unfair advantage and was based on a similar concept.
