The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is approaching its release, and various insider reports suggest that AI will be the main selling point for the new devices. Recent evidence indicates that Samsung’s latest flagship models may eliminate the traditional “hey Google” prompt in favor of a new one.
Leaked promotional materials (according to a translated source) suggest that the AI assistant will be activated with a different prompt. While the images display a “hey Google Gemini” prompt, it is highly likely that it will simply change to “hey Gemini.” Previously, Samsung showcased its XR (Extended Reality) prototype, which also utilized the Gemini prompt. Additionally, there are unverified claims that the Galaxy S25 phones will include exclusive features related to Google Gemini.
If this is accurate, it would make sense for Samsung to modify how users engage with the AI assistant on the device. However, there has also been considerable discussion about a new LLM-powered Bixby assistant that aims to compete with Apple’s intelligence. It remains uncertain how the new Bixby and Gemini will coexist on the Galaxy S25.
If Samsung does introduce the new “hey Gemini” prompt, I believe it’s reasonable to expect that other Android phones will soon follow suit. Just like Siri on the iPhone 16 is being replaced, the Google Assistant is also set to be phased out.
However, while Siri will retain its name and integrate with ChatGPT, Google Assistant will be entirely replaced by Gemini. In my opinion, both Google Assistant and especially Siri have been declining for years, and I’m eager to see them completely overhauled.
These assistants often failed to provide the help I needed. With LLM-powered AI, both Siri and Google Assistant now have a chance to regain user trust and become essential tools for phone usage. If “hey Gemini” can deliver an assistant that truly comprehends my requests, then I say it’s time to say goodbye to the old and welcome the new!
