Google Play has recently launched “Verified” badges for VPN applications.
These badges are specifically designed for apps that “prioritize user privacy and safety,” aiming to assist users in making more informed decisions regarding the VPN services they choose.
According to Google, obtaining a VPN badge signifies more than just meeting basic requirements; it indicates that the app has excelled in adhering to Play’s safety and security standards and has successfully passed a Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2 validation.
The VPN badge will appear on the app’s details page and in search results, helping verified apps to stand out. In addition, Google has created new platforms to highlight verified VPN applications.

To get the “Verified” badge, a VPN app must meet certain criteria. The verification process also includes other factors that Google has not mentioned. Nevertheless, to be eligible for the “Verified” badge, a VPN app must:
- Complete a Level 2 validation of the Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA).
- Ensure that the organization has a developer account type.
- Meet the target API level requirements for Google Play apps.
- Achieve a minimum of 10,000 installs and 250 reviews.
- Be available on Google Play for at least 90 days.
- Submit a declaration for the Data Safety section, opting into: 1. An independent security review, listed under “Additional badges.” 2. Encryption during transit.
Three VPN apps have already been awarded their “Verified” badges by Google, so you can find them on their pages in the Google Play Store: Nord, hide.me, and Aloha Browser.
