We may still be six weeks from the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro, but there’s a fresh new rumor that’s about to add some fresh new excitement to the rumor mill. Apple’s hugely controversial iPhone 17 Pro design has started to leak and it turns out that it’s not just the huge M1 iPhone 17 Pro display the company is experimenting with.
It’s worth noting that the origins of this leak are unknown and unverified, but according to the suspicious image of the paper, these claims come from an iPhone 17 Pro ad that Slovenian production house Division Film is working on, a house which Apple is included as clients.
So what are the three rumored iPhone 17 Pro features?
8x Optical Zoom in iPhone 17 Pro?
The telephoto lens on the iPhone 17 Pro meanwhile is set to get a huge upgrade, going from 5x to 8x optical zoom if the tipster is accurate. If true, that would be a massive jump in zoom capabilities for the iPhone and could permit significantly more precise long-range photography. The whisper also talks about variable focal length support, which would hint at a more dynamic and adaptable camera set-up.
Pro Camera App for Video and Photo
An iPhone 17 Pro Pro camera app could at last answer a problem Apple’s been dealing with for decades — how to balance pro-level features with intuitive use without overloading the capabilities of its flagship smartphones. Even though the default Camera app sticks to simplicity, this new pro camera app will offer more control for professionals over the settings in photo and video. This too would fit with previous leaks from Jon Prosser, which said iOS 26 will finally deliver multi-camera video recording natively to iPhone 17 Pro handsets.
And given Apple’s slowly growing emphasis on mobile content creators, a dedicated Pro camera app would certainly make the iPhone 17 Pro even more attractive to professionals.
On the Top Edge: New Camera Control Button
One of the more outlandish claims is that Apple could include a second Camera Control button on the top rail of the iPhone 17 Pro. We’re talking about a physical button being placed there for the first time, and it’s too close to a hardware feature leak for Apple that typically leaks hardware years before the public sees it.

And yet, if Apple is in fact tweaking camera ergonomics for his team of professionals, this control button might just be a new feature arriving with a more versatile camera system.
9to5Mac’s Analysis: Plausible or Not?
The leak is unverified, but MacRumors has a right-sized dose of skepticism and shares the tip responsibly. It feels that two of these three things on the iPhone 17 Pro side — the 8x zoom and pro camera app — sound more like something which could happen. Hardware leaks are difficult to keep under wraps, but camera zoom breakthroughs have been seen before as last-minute surprises.
The new Camera Control button, meanwhile, feels a bit less likely unless it’s part of a larger camera hardware overhaul.
Software and iOS 26 Synergy
Apple’s iOS 26 software update is already working to move camera evolution forward by streamlining the raw app and burying unnecessary modes. A well-made pro camera app does make sense in this direction, giving professional users more controls, while allowing casual users to keep it simple.
Final Thoughts
Whether any or all of these rumored features actually land on the iPhone 17 Pro, though, one thing is certain: Apple is being challenged to rise to the occasion as the demand for professional-quality mobile photography continues to grow. With a few weeks remaining until launch, excitement over iPhone 17 Pro camera upgrades just won’t stop building.
