Apple appears committed to refreshing the design of the iPhone 17. A recent rumor suggests that the company plans to modify the phone’s contours.
According to information from the Chinese tipster Fixed Focus Digital, first reported by MacRumors, Apple will implement a new splicing technique for the iPhone 17.
This technique likely involves joining various materials to ensure a proper fit, such as the glass back and the frame. The machine translation of the information is somewhat unclear, but it seems to indicate that the main body of the device, particularly where the rear shell converges with the frame, will feature a sloped design instead of a stepped one.

This suggests that the transition between the back and the frame will be more seamless rather than abrupt. Essentially, we can expect a smoother flow from the back into the frame, which will likely result in a less angular design.
While this change may be subtle, it could enhance the phone’s aesthetics and make it more comfortable to hold. It is currently unclear whether this design update will apply to all models in the iPhone 17 lineup or just the standard versions.
Additionally, Apple seems to be exploring various changes for the iPhone 17 Pro, including a shift from a titanium frame to aluminum sides, a horizontal camera bump, a hybrid aluminum and glass back, and a smaller Dynamic Island. The iPhone’s design has remained largely unchanged for several years, making a redesign long overdue.
Although the iPhone 16 Pro is highly regarded, its sales have fallen short of expectations, underscoring the need for significant updates to stimulate demand.
The new models are anticipated to be unveiled in September, indicating that there is still some time before their release.
Apple is also expected to replace the iPhone 17 Plus with a new model, potentially named the iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Slim. All variants are expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate.
