Maruti Suzuki Dzire ranks on top, the sedan sales report for July 2025 shows that the compact sedan remains a popular choice in India. These models have seen the specuture of the sedan segment in India over the years, where some have seen momentum whereas some have seen a steep downfall too.
Market Leader: Maruti Suzuki Dzire
Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued its strong run in sedan sales July 2025 with 20,895 units sold. This also meant a huge 79% increase YoY over 11,647 units in the same month last year. Clearly the new gen arrival has done wonders for the Dzire, making it the best-selling sedan in our country.
Hyundai Aura Holds Second Spot
Hyundai Aura was at second place in the sedan sales July 2025, with 4,636 unit sales. But it did record a 3% fall compared to July 2024 when 4,757 sales were achieved. Still, this drop doesn’t take away from the Aura’s strong reputation in the compact sedan arena.
Honda Amaze Struggles in Third
Honda Amaze The Honda Amaze was the third-best seller among sedans July 2025, but sales dipped 14% on a year-on-year basis. The Amaze faced tough demand amid increased competition in the compact sedan segment as it managed to register 2,009 units against 2,327 units it sold in the same month last year.
Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia
Volkswagen Virtus also remained stable at 1,797 sedan sales in July 2025 as well, gaining a paltry 2% Y-o-Y compared to the prior year. The Skoda Slavia, on the other hand managed to sustain better sales momentum with 1,168 units sold compared to 793 units in 2024, a 47% increase. It speaks to an evolution of consumer acceptance of the premium midsize sedan.
Falling numbers: Tata Tigor, Hyundai Verna, Honda City
Tata Tigor continued to face heat in July 2025, suffering a 35 percent drop in sales to 968 units (vs. 1,495 units) in sedan sales. Even the Hyundai Verna too had tough times, with sales nosediving to 826 units, down 42% from 1,420 units. The Honda City, however, which used to be the segment leader in the midsize sedan category, reported a decline of 32 percent with just 646 units sold as opposed to 957 units during last year.
Ciaz Slumps, Camry Shows Growth
Low volume sedans have also seen a drop in sales, with Maruti Suzuki Ciaz recording the steepest fall among them in July 2025 with sales plunging by 71%, to just 173 units, from 603 units in July 2024. Positive momentum was however seen with Toyota Camry, which improved by 28% with161 units vs 126 this time last year.
Overall Sedan Segment Performance
Overall, the prospects are mixed for July 2025 sedan sales. Models like the Dzire and Slavia were able to post strong double-digit growth while others like the Tigor, Verna, City, and Ciaz registered steep declines. This trend mirrors the shift in consumer preference towards SUVs in India, though cars in the compact sedan category, like the Dzire and Aura, still see a larger portion of demand.
