Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is officially coming in 2026, Capcom has confirmed. The news was reveals at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase on July 31, 2025, and fans have been long-awaiting for the franchise to come back to the big stage. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC(via Steam).
Twisted Reflection follows Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which launched in 2021 and had moved over 1 million copies within 10 days of its release. By 2025, over 2 million sales of Monster Hunter Stories 2 had been reached around the world. Capcom hopes to take the successful spin-off RPG series even further from there.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection brings a darker tone, but continues the colorful art style the series is known for. At its core is a conflict between the twin Rathalos, a pair of mythical dragon-like monsters whose miraculous birth sets off a blood feud between the kingdoms of Vermeil and Azuria. Players assume the role of the heir to the Kingdom of Azuria, the fabled last Rathalos Rider, who is tasked with stopping the cataclysmic threat of “crystal energy” that has formed ten million years after Rathalos vanished from the world.
The heroine-hero is accompanied since childhood by the princess of Vermeil, Elanor, a political hostage and devoted friend. They accompany the player’s party alongside her (or his) Monstie, Anjanth, as they search for the truth behind Vermeil’s queen. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is set to offer an emotional narrative, strategic turn-based combat, and lots of monster-riding action.
The announcement of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is also great news, this is the series’ first new entry in over four years. After the hit success of Monster Hunter Stories 2, fans of the franchise are hungry to know where the game goes next.
Meanwhile, the core Monster Hunter games remain dominant. As of March 2025, the game series has shipped over 120 million copies worldwide. Capcom released Monster Hunter Wilds, the fastest-selling game in the franchise’s history, on February 28, and it sold 8 million copies in three days. As of June 30, Monster Hunter Wilds had sold more than 10.58 million units worldwide.
Yet Monster Hunter Wilds hit roadblocks in Q1 2025, with poor PC performance and woeful reviews stifling sell-through to 447,000 in April and June. And though Monster Hunter Wild trounced it in terms of lifetime popularity, interest in Capcom’s Devil May Cry 5 enjoyed a sudden resurgence due to the April 2025 launch of its Netflix version, outstripping Wilds’ quarterly numbers with 1.78 million copies sold.
With peaks and valleys like these, it’s no surprise Monster Hunter Wilds is still one of the best-selling games of 2025, so Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will have a ready-made audience in 2026. Capcom has hinted that more information is due to be released in the months to come, along with possible amiibo connections for the Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is showing every sign that it will be one of Capcom’s hottest RPG releases of 2026, combining a sophisticated narrative with turn-based combat reminiscent of the originals and the monster-riding mechanics that fans can’t get enough of.
