Twisted Reflection follows Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which launched in 2021 and had moved over 1 million copies within 10 days of its release. By 2025, over 2 million sales of Monster Hunter Stories 2 had been reached around the world. Capcom hopes to take the successful spin-off RPG series even further from there.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection brings a darker tone, but continues the colorful art style the series is known for. At its core is a conflict between the twin Rathalos, a pair of mythical dragon-like monsters whose miraculous birth sets off a blood feud between the kingdoms of Vermeil and Azuria.
