A smartphone is a type of cell phone that offers more functionality than just making calls and sending texts. They are different from feature phones due to their advanced hardware capabilities and extensive mobile operating systems, which allow for a variety of software, internet browsing, and multimedia features. Smartphones can access the internet, run software applications, and feature touch screens for user interaction. There are numerous apps available for smartphones, including games, personal use, and business programs. Popular examples of smartphones include the Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhone. The first smartphone, known as the Simon Personal Communicator (SPC), was created by IBM in 1992 and released for purchase in 1994.
