Vi 5G Goes Live in Mumbai: Unlimited Data Sparks Connectivity Revolution
Vodafone Idea (Vi) has officially launched its 5G services in Mumbai, marking a pivotal moment in India’s telecom sector.
The rollout, announced on Tuesday, positions Vi as a key competitor in the 5G race, with Bihar, Delhi, Karnataka, and Punjab slated for April 2023 coverage.
The company’s new 5G microsite showcases lightning-fast connectivity promises, prepaid/postpaid plan details, and a coverage checker tool.
Unlimited 5G Data: A First for India
Vi’s 5G plans stand out with unlimited high-speed data, a rare offering for plans priced as low as ₹299. Prepaid users can choose from daily data packs (1GB to 2GB) with 28-day to 365-day validity. Postpaid users gain flexibility with four tiers:
- Vi Max 451 (₹451/month, 50GB data)
- Vi Max 551 (₹551/month, 90GB data)
- Vi Max 751 (₹751/month, 150GB data)
- REDX 1201 (₹1,201/month, unlimited data)
Notably, Vi is the only operator providing unlimited 5G data in plans under 2GB/day, undercutting rivals Airtel and Jio, which restrict unlimited 5G to higher-tier plans.
Strategic Rollout and Market Impact
The phased expansion to Delhi, Punjab, and Karnataka reflects Vi’s ambition to reclaim market share. The unlimited 5G data offer, though temporary, could attract budget-conscious users seeking high-speed connectivity without daily caps.
Analysts suggest this move may pressure competitors to revise pricing strategies.
Vi’s 5G launch signals a bold step toward bridging India’s digital divide. With unlimited data and competitive pricing, the company aims to redefine affordability in high-speed connectivity.
Stay tuned for updates as Vi expands its 5G footprint nationwide.
As a joint venture between Vodafone Group and Aditya Birla Group, Vi leverages global expertise and local market understanding.
