Vivo X300 Geekbench MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Renders a Disappointing Score

Vivo X300 on Geekbench with MediaTek Dimensity 9500 has now come to light, but it appears the flagship chipset isn’t delivering the well of performance gain a lot of people were hoping for. The first-ever phone to be sighted with the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 is the Vivo X300, bearing the model number V20509A, as per the Geekbench listing. The smartphone will be launched in China later this year as immediate rival of Xiaomi next-gen flagship in the Xiaomi 15 series.

Now the benchmark numbers do not bode well for the MediaTek Dimensity 9500. This hacker got a score of 2,485 on a single-core and 7,321 on a multi-core with the chipset. The results are very similar to what we saw with 2023’s Dimensity 9300, which may indicate that this test unit was limited or operating in a low power state. However, we suspect some early adopters might be disappointed in the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 as a major upgrade.

Even if the scores aren’t so great, the Geekbench listing does tell us a lot about the MediaTek Dimensity 9500. The chipset follows an octa-core arrangement but with a new clock speed pattern: four cores at 2.70 GHz, three at 3.50 GHz, and one prime core at 4.21GHz. MediaTek has not publicly revealed the CPU cores it plans to use, although reports have indicated that alongside the high-end Cortex X9-series core, the Dimensity 9500 may also use ARM’s entirely new and unannounced A7-series cores.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9500 also uses ARM’s newest Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU in a design that promises gaming and new performance for AI graphics. Previous leaks have indicated that MediaTek has specifically aimed the Dimensity 9500 at improving GPU and AI efficiency.

MediTek is likely going to officially announce the Dimensity 9500 sometime next month once several Chinese OEMs are going to adopt this chipset. Expect the Vivo X300 to be the first smartphone with this SoC as well, with more brands to follow.

So the billion-dollar question is if the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 is capable of delivering on expectations and can actually go toe to toe with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. If the current Geekbench scores are accurate, it may be a hard sell for MediaTek to convince consumers and partners alike that the Dimensity 9500 is desktop flagship-grade chipset.
