VSCO, or Visual Supply Company, is about to roll out a new camera app, the VSCO Capture App, that will only work on the iPhone. This app It promises to give users a more traditional photography experience with 50+ film-style presets providing a creative, organic feel pre-shot.
This VSCO Capture App is to be the first standalone app by VSCO in over a decade. Its goal is to be a replacement to Apple’s default Camera app, allowing for greater control and creative tools to take photos on an iPhone. The launch of the VSCO Capture App will be limited and restricted in certain regions at first, namely Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand.
One of the main attractions of the VSCO Capture App is the possibility to use filters before taking the photo which means it also has an option for taking the picture without editing. Inspired by classic film aesthetics, these presets are perfect for creators, photographers or casual users simply looking for aesthetic results without the need to manually post-process to achieve that desired look.
The VSCO Capture App is likely to include two modes: automatic and manual. Automatic mode is for those who want a simple and clean interface, while manual mode will introduce features like exposure compensation and shutter speed control. The app also lets users customize visual effects, such as bloom and halation.
Important to note: the VSCO Capture App will be available only after you log in with a VSCO account. While some premium features will remain for premium users, the app will remain free and available to all. It won’t include any AI-generated features (like VSCO Canvas in the main app) when it launches.
Functional-wise, the VSCO Capture App would work alongside the main VSCO app, making it easy for users to transfer and organize images. The 50 included film presets are meant to help streamline the creative process and prompt sharing on social media — both on Instagram and social networks like VSCO’s own.
The VSCO Capture App will begin rolling out in test markets next week and will be available in the U.S. this summer. This rollout strategy shows that VSCO is testing it out before a worldwide rollout.
Mobile photographers who charge to juice sext much like that unique film-like experience — one that begins before the photo is even sexy — are going to find a lot to love DS the VSCO Capture App. This adds to the growing interest in these kinds of retro filters, or one-tap enhancements — and could make for a killer app to help turn regular iPhone pics into something more.
With the launch of the VSCO Capture App looming, high hopes will be set on how it will compete against not just Apple’s built-in Camera app but also many other third-party camera tools. The real-time presets with little to no editing in the app has a possible chance of changing the way a creative user may shoot and share a photo in 2025.
