Xiaomi’s next-gen in-house flagship chipset, the XRing O2, is being developed, and new leaks now reveal when we can expect it. After the good reception of the XRing O1 (used in the Pad 7s Pro, the Pad 7 Ultra and in the Xiaomi 15S Pro), the company is already working on its successor.
The XRing O2 is planned to be released in September 2026, according to Fixed Focus Digital, which is a reliable leaker. Out of all these, especially the timeframe can be related to the release windows of chipset rivals like MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 3 and Apple’s in-works A20.
The XRing O2 allegedly uses a 3nm process – this means that Xiaomi decided not to give up on competing in the premium SoC space. But that’s not the end of the story yet as competitors such as Apple, MediaTek and Qualcomm are projected to transition to a 2nm process come next year, potentially posing a challenge to Xiaomi. At the same time, the XRing O2 should feature a flagship-like performance profile, which would help gain it more market presence than the O1.
The first of its kind, the in-house chip,” XRing 01,” received positive reviews regarding its performance and efficiency, however, it only worked on three devices. Xiaomi has still to announce availability outside of it’s home market from the XRing O2, although there are many Xiaomi fans who have their fingers crossed for a wider release to include not only smartphones but also the best selling Xiaomi tablets. With the right timing on Xiaomi’s part, the XRing O2 might just have something to say in the Android flagship arena.
For perspective, Xiaomi only launched the XRing O1 earlier this year, with the chipset debuting only on the Pad 7 series and the Xiaomi 15S Pro. With the XRing O2, Xiaomi will be going after a more competitive sector, taking on the Dimensity 9600 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite 3 head on.
Full specs are still unknown, but industry observers are suggesting the XRing O2 could see improved power efficiency, AI features and GPU performance. If those predictions are accurate, Xiaomi will finally become a serious chipset contender outside of their limited XRing O1 deployment.
Tech fans will be eager to compare the XRing O2 with the Dimensity 9600 and Snapdragon 8 Elite 3 at launch. For now, it looks like it’s going to be a tight year for flagship silicon.
