Since the OnePlus 12R was essentially a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 3, it was expected that the OnePlus 13R would follow suit as a rebranded OnePlus Ace 5.
The Ace 5 was recently launched in China, and the OnePlus 13R is anticipated to be officially unveiled globally on January 7th. However, a new rumor suggests that the OnePlus 13R may not be a straightforward replica of the OnePlus Ace 5 after all.
Additionally, if you’re curious about the OnePlus Ace 4, it simply doesn’t exist. The number four is considered unlucky in China, as its pronunciation is very similar to the word for death. This superstition, known as tetraphobia, has led Oppo to skip the number in its Find flagship series. Similarly, OnePlus has bypassed the Ace 4 in China and moved directly to the Ace 5.
OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 13R will feature a 6000mAh battery, which is smaller than the 6400mAh battery in the OnePlus Ace 5. Furthermore, a well-known leaker has pointed out additional differences between the OnePlus Ace 5 and the OnePlus 13R.
Both devices will come equipped with a 50 MP main camera supported by Sony’s Lytia LYT-700 image sensor, as well as an 8 MP ultra-wide camera. The front-facing cameras on both the Ace 5 and the 13R will have a resolution of 16 MP, remaining the same across both models.
According to leaker Yogesh Brar, who posted a tweet today, the rear camera setup on the OnePlus 13R includes a feature that the OnePlus Ace 5 lacks: a telephoto camera utilizing Samsung’s ISOCELL JN5 sensor, which will provide 2x optical zoom.
Brar also revealed the specifications for the OnePlus 13R, at least for the Indian market. One model will come with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. For power users, there will be a variant with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
This suggests that those who assumed the OnePlus 13R would simply be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 5 were mistaken, as the OnePlus 13R will feature enhancements not available on the Ace 5 model intended for the Chinese market.
